SUPER MOON

There is big celestial energy afoot as I sit down to write to you!

Today is the September full moon. This year’s harvest moon is also a super moon, a blood moon, and will be partially eclipsed by Earth’s shadow later tonight. Sunday then brings the autumnal equinox in the northern hemisphere, an equally long day and night ushering in the fall season.

Full and new moons and the seasonal equinoxes and solstices are the times when I feel most connected to nature and the vastness of the universe. I time these quarterly newsletters with the equinoxes and solstices because I enjoy the ease of reflection, dreaming, and planning I often experience in these cyclical moments.

Today’s moon has me a little more amped than usual, mostly because I’m just so excited for the beautiful spectacle it’s sure to offer tonight but also because the pairing of the harvest moon and the autumnal equinox portend a time of hard work, abundance, and readying ourselves for hibernation and new beginnings by taking stock and clearing out what’s no longer nourishing or necessary. This year’s transition to autumn aligns with personal and professional transitions that will surely benefit from these concurrent shifts in nature.

I’m tempering my excitement and resisting the impulse to rush forward into the future by connecting the dynamism of nature with the stillness of presence.

Work of Artists is a new seminar designed and led by artist Alex Schmidt, business consultant Holly Howard, and (yours truly) artist consultant Corrina Peipon. The seminar is designed to empower artists with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive as both creators and entrepreneurs. Navigating the art world requires understanding the art market; establishing and managing a business; AND making compelling work. We aim to highlight the interconnected nature of these varied and demanding skill sets by providing a basic guide to the essentials of running an art business; understanding the art world economy; pursuing academic opportunities; and safeguarding your creative output through sound legal and financial practices. This seminar is for you if you’re establishing or refreshing the business infrastructure of your artist's studio. Work of Artists is THIS THURSDAY, September 19, 1-4pm PT via zoom. The fee is $150. To register, email Holly Howard: hhoward@askhollyhow.com

The First Ten is an arts program devoted to mid-career artists who are mothers offering professional services, community, and general care at a time of great transition. Last spring, executive director of The First Ten and artist Amanda Valdez invited me to participate in a pilot program leading up to the launch of the full slate of The First Ten’s programs as the steward of group consulting for the beta cohort. Our group of seven artists who also identify as mothers engaged first in weekly, then monthly conversations that were always informative, challenging, and inspiring. The first official year-long cohort began earlier this month, and I’m honored to be leading the six participants in group conversations about the opportunities and challenges they are facing in their careers.

I will not be holding Office Hours on September 19; October 25 and 31; November 28. And the last OH of 2024 will be December 12. Office Hours is open to all past and current clients; if you need the link, please email me

The 5th annual Growth Planning Workshop is now underway with a terrific group of 19 planners, the largest cohort yet. The group includes folks who are new to the process and others who have worked with it in the past, making for a lively and complex conversation about the opportunities and challenges we all face when planning for and navigating our life’s work. Learn more about growth planning here, and let me know if you’d like to learn the process in a private or group setting.

Happy SUPER MOON, lunar eclipse, and autumn equinox!
