A special ~~~audio~~~ edition of Dear CP

Dear CP,

I want to book a 1-hour meeting with you to discuss how to approach my upcoming show at Chapman University's Guggenheim Gallery in February-March 2025. I’m wondering if you might be open to broadcasting our meeting on my Boundary Issues show on KCHUNG. The theme of the show is that I talk about stuff on air that most people don’t talk about in public at all. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

Private consulting and its group counterpart are at the heart of Continuous Project. These intimate conversations are a safe space for asking questions and finding a reliable, trustworthy sounding board in a confidential environment. As with private and group consulting, the Dear CP advice column is written to share the lessons and keep the stories: Anonymity in the writing echoes the confidentiality I uphold in the consulting context by making the lessons public for all readers to benefit while keeping any identifying details private.

Confidentiality and privacy are some of the boundaries I uphold to operate my practice effectively and in alignment with my values, creating a safe space for folks to discuss sensitive matters. But boundaries can also be negotiable :)

I was delighted to—consensually!—transgress these boundaries when my long-time client Kim Ye suggested we broadcast one of our consulting meetings live on her radio show, aptly titled: Boundary Issues

For the first Dear CP of 2025, I asked Kim if she'd be comfortable with me sharing out our discussion, so rather than publish a written Q&A here, I invite you to listen in on an ~~~actual~~~ consulting meeting, recorded live on air from the KCHUNG broadcast booth at MOCA on December 11, 2024

Our conversation revolves around outreach for Kim’s (then upcoming, now current) exhibition at Chapman University’s Guggenheim Gallery and covers topics including the reluctance we can sometimes feel about getting the word out about our work; how to discuss communications outreach with exhibition partners; when, where, and how to reach out to folks about exhibitions; the importance of personal invitations; and building working relationships in the art world.

Beginning around minute 17, our conversation runs for about an hour, but don’t skip over Kim’s preamble, AND the amazing blast from the past by Hole she played before we connect. I hope you listen and get inspired to send in your question, or book a discovery call to explore working together, and please head over to Kim’s exhibition at Chapman University’s Guggenheim Gallery, which is on view through March 20, 2025. Details to plan your visit are here, and you're invited to learn more about Kim's work here and here.
